I could probably make a list of the top frequently asked questions asked in grappling pages and groups on social media, and the one in the title would be in the top 10, and probably crack the top 5 if I am being perfectly honest. It makes sense; many people are unsure of themselves when […]
Read moreWhere My Ladies At?
When it comes to the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition scene, the ladies divisions are often sparse. I won’t pretend I have been in the game for an exceptionally long time frame, but in the 9 years since I began Jiu Jitsu and started competing, I am lucky to see a handful of female competitors, especially […]

Does having a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt tied around your waist equate to all walks of life? You’d be an absolute moron if you believe this is so. This would be the equivalent of asking the best car mechanic you know to perform cardiac surgery on you because your body’s “engine” is out of […]
Read moreI Suck at Jiu Jitsu
I suck at Jiu Jitsu, and you probably do too. Hear me out; this sentiment rings true especially for competitors. We are constantly pushing ourselves in training and striving to be the best that we can possibly be. Often times gearing up for tournaments, or Jiu Jitsu super fights or even MMA fights, and it […]
Read moreOmega
I’d rather be the lone wolf than the Omega; the last in the pack, the scapegoat, the ones who eat last. There are many who probably (wrongly) assume I am the alpha, keen to lead the pack and be the strong and constant vigilant ruler. But I hate, nay, loathe that type of responsibility. I […]

m not unfamiliar with hardships, trials and tribulations, and setbacks needed to conquer in my martial arts journey. MMA and BJJ are without a doubt the hardest, yet most rewarding feats I have ever dared to partake in. Nothing is hard enough to keep me from my goals though, and that is for sure something I guarantee.

What’s that title mean? Well, I guess it all boils down to if you’re gonna talk the talk, you sure as hell better walk the walk. I pride myself in establishing that my word is my bond; I don’t commit myself to tasks and obligations only to not follow through. If I promise something, I […]
Read moreLet Those Tears Flow
Cry it out sis (or bro, or whomever; we don’t discriminate around these parts). Let those tears flow. You worked harder than you ever though possible, sacrificed time, and put in the effort. And you know what? Sometimes the stars don’t align and it just isn’t your day. And yeah. That shit fucking hurts. I […]
Read moreJiu Jitsu: Not For Everyone
Possibly controversial opinion: Jiu Jitsu is not for everyone. Sure, it more than has the potential to be, but at the end of the day, it is statistically impossible to be cut out for every single person that tries it. Nothing in life is perfect, and there is always going to be issues that arise with the tasks and hobbies that you partake in, whatever the reason may be.

We either get discouraged by our setbacks, or we use them as the fuel to help ignite us further into working harder to accomplish the goals we set for ourselves. I refuse to call the recent fight loss I had a failure; sure it stings and I cried a bit that night upset at what […]
